Photographer offers outdoor ‘PORCHtraits’

Ah, Easter. The season to dress the family in their pastel finery and pose for a family portrait. So you say you haven’t changed out of those yoga pants for a week and your hair care routine involves an old baseball cap? Lake Highlands neighbor April Barnes wants to get your crew off the couch and onto the porch.

Barnes is a professional photographer, and she’s adapting to the pandemic by offering “PORCHtraits” for so families don’t have to bring her into their home or step into a studio. She promises to stay six feet away and take the pics anywhere in your yard or neighborhood that makes a great backdrop.

You can check out her work on her website here or her Instagram here.

“I feel like I’m connecting more with people I normally wouldn’t have,” says Barnes. “People seem to enjoy it. It’s almost as if the pictures give them permission to enjoy this time when we are slowing down and being more connected with ourselves and our loved ones.”

Because of the economic uncertainty of the times, Barnes says she’s accepting donations for her services. She doesn’t want any family’s financial hardship to discourage them from having their photo made. After a 20-25 minute mini-shoot, participants will receive 20-30 edited digital files for posting or printing. She estimates most photographers would charge around $125 for this type of package.

“Honestly, I just want to bring some joy and create memories.”

To schedule, text Barnes at 972-965-8173 with your name, address and preferred time of day. Tell her how many people you’ll include and whether you’ll try to involve pets or other fun ideas.
