Hi, I’m April Barnes. I’ve been a professional photographer since 2018. I love taking pictures. I love documenting your precious moments. I love capturing the essence of subjects. I love being able to show your the world in my eyes. I specialize in photographing humans, animals, flowers, plants, trees, cool spaces, marketing and branding.
I grew up in North Texas and have lived in many places for college and my previous career of Expatriate Management. I’ve lived in East Dallas since 2012. There’s no other part of Dallas that I would rather be. Our family changed unexpectedly this summer after our beloved David (best friend, partner, husband, dad, stepdad, son, the best hair stylist, counselor, amazing light and all his other magic) tragically transitioned out of this Earth plane. We’re still inspecting and going through the things, while re-thinking, re-programming, re-visualizing, re-evaluating, re-etc ing everything.
I am grateful I get to do what I love to support my family and help them create their dreams. I am not giving up on mine and David’s dreams either, they might just look a little differently than we were envisioning. I connect through nature and photography. Playing and laughing are healing as well. What I’ve learned in the grief process is that pictures are extremely important.Pictures can take you back to a moment in time, where you knew exactly what was going on in your life and you remember so much more than just the still visual. It’s like a glimpse into someone’s soul.

If you really don’t think you need pictures or don’t live in Dallas and still want to help, a friend of mine came up with an amazing idea. She suggested that people contribute to a “fund” of sorts that I can pull from to pay myself. Therefore, you will buy “gift cards” in whatever amount you’d like. That money will go in a fund until it’s needed. From this fund, I’m able to offer pro bono work for charities, for people who might not have the means to pay for photography or offer a sliding scale to help subsidize smaller businesses or organizations that are struggling or just starting out. I understand photography can be expensive for some and I’d like to be able to help out families who lost a parent, single parent families, people who are starting over, organizations that I love to support, etc.
It’s called “Pictures of You”. And I’m going to just put it out there to see what y’all think. I asked a specialist about a non-profit and there’s so many legal hoops, administration and board stuff that I’m not ready at all to take on right now. If it becomes something, then I’ll dive into that when it’s time. If you are interested in learning more about this or have any questions, let me know!
